Pop Art Painting

Pop artists take the simple and common everyday item or image and raise it to fine art. In this class, students will observe and recreate commonplace objects by taking them outside of their typical context to imbue the objects with new meaning.
  • Learn how to paint with acrylics and print onto your painting
  • Demonstrate the use of color, line, symbolism, and scale
  • Complete a mixed media painting in the pop-art style

Dino Sculpting

Students will examine different types of dinosaurs to create their own 3-D rendition - focusing on scale, proportion and texture. From high and low relief sculpture to free-standing sculpture in the round, students will learn the diverse styles and methods of working with clay. Through the processes of experimenting and working with clay, students will learn fundamental sculpting techniques and demonstrate their understanding of 3-D art-making.
  • Learn how to use clay
  • Demonstrate use of the slip and score method
  • Complete two sculpture projects; a fossil and a small scale dinosaur

Kawaii Creations

Cute! Adorable! Lovable! Charming!… Kawaii! Kawaii is the culture of cuteness in Japan and in this camp we will be making all things cute! To make our digital Kawaii characters we will look at inspiration from popular Japanese cartoons while learning how to create a silhouette, distinct facial features and texture for our original characters.
  • We will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop to create our characters
  • Learn how to draw proper proportions to ensure the kawaii-style
  • Create 4-5 characters inspired by food, animals and objects

Learn to Draw Animals

Let’s go wild! Learning to draw realistically is a crucial and fundamental skill for any aspiring artist. Students will study various animal anatomies to help them create accurate, proportionate, and to scale drawings of their favorite animals!
  • Learn how to draw with graphite and pastel
  • Demonstrate how to create proper proportions and realistic anatomy drawings
  • Complete one graphite and one pastel animal drawing

Pen & Ink Illustration

Explore the field of illustration from a new frame of reference. Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency with the pen and ink drawing medium. Students will learn about today’s illustrators and develop unique concepts of their own. 
  • Learn how to use micron pens and india ink
  • Demonstrate cross hatching, stippling and shading using pen and ink
  • Complete a series of three pen and ink drawings

Digital Grafitti

The recent street-art movement marked by artists like Banksy has placed graffiti on the map and grown to be an accepted creative outlet. In this camp, students will study graffiti as a base for making their own digital street-art paintings. Students will work in Adobe Photoshop to digitally draw and render street art, graffiti and lettering.
  • Learn how to use digital drawing and painting tools in Adobe Photoshop
  • Use specialty brushes in Photoshop that mimic real spray paint
  • Complete a series of digital artworks
